Sudbury, ON – The Greater Sudbury Cubs host the Espanola Paper Kings at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex for the sixth time this season on Skater’s Edge Night, sponsored by Skater’s Edge Source for Sports. The Cubs, who currently sit second in the West division with 81 points, have already clinched a playoff spot while the Paper Kings remain in a battle with the Soo Eagles (65 pts) for the West Division’s final playoff spot with 67 points through 54 games played this season. Both Espanola and the Soo have four games remaining in their regular season schedules.

Greater Sudbury are coming off a high-scoring week that saw them dominate the Elliot Lake Vikings to an 11-2 scoreline last week at home before falling 7-6 in regulation to the Paper Kings in Espanola on Sunday. With the split, Sudbury has moved up one spot to 14th in the CJHL Top 20 Rankings – Fuelled by Gatorade and remain second in the West Division with 81 points. The Cubs remain second in Goals For (258) but have moved to fourth in the league in Goals Against (160), one goal more than the East Division leading Timmins Rock (159).

Espanola come into the Countryside Sports Complex 6-3-1-0 in their last 10 games and enter tonight on a one-game winning streak having defeated the Cubs just four days ago. Forward Blake Peters-Davey (04-F) scored the eventual game-winning goal with 25-seconds remaining in the second period of Sunday’s contest. The forward finished with two goals and two assists for a four-point afternoon.

Sudbury has had the upper hand this season with a 7-2-1-1 record against the Paper Kings and have historically been the betting favourite over the last five seasons against them going 27-12-2-2 over that span. Espanola snapped a three-game losing streak to the Cubs on Sunday with their 7-6 regulation win courtesy of a four-point game from Peters-Davey and a three-point game from forward Owen Fergusson (04-F) who scored two goals and supplied one assist.

Noah Kohan (05-F) – The 18-year-old has four goals in his last three games and is looking to extend that streak to four-straight games with a goal tonight against Espanola. His longest goal-scoring streak this season is five-straight games during the month of November.
