Sudbury, ON – The Greater Sudbury Cubs get set to play their 11th game of the month and look to finish November the same way they started it – with a win. They host the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners tonight in the two teams’ second matchup of the season.

Even in this, the busiest month of their season, the Cubs have handled the schedule like pros, emerging 8-2-0-0 after a 5-3 win over the Espanola Paper Kings on November 24th at the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex. Sudbury returns home to the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex for just the fourth time this month undefeated during that span.

The Gold Miners are playing in their ninth game this month and are 2-7-1-0 in their last 10 games. Coming off a 6-0 loss to the Hearst Lumberjacks on November 26th, Kirkland Lake hopes to improve on its 2-8-1-1 record on the road this season.

Previous meetings

These two teams last played one another on October 15th at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex in Kirkland Lake, with the Cubs coming away with a 4-2 win. Ryan Rubic (04-F) impressed with a three-point night (1G, 2A) while Cameron Shanks (04-F) also supplied two goals for Sudbury. Jonah McIndoo (06-F) had an assist on both the Gold Miners’ goals in front of a hometown crowd of 220 people.

Historically, the Cubs hold a 7-0-0-1 over the Gold Miners.

Player to watch (Sudbury)

Mateo Signoretti (06-F) – After joining the team last week and recording an assist in his first game, the Sudbury native is eager to bring his high energy and speed to his hometown team. The 17-year-old forward began the 23-24 season with the Okanagan U18 Prep AAA team where he was named Alternate Team Captain and recorded three assists in eight games. Signoretti recorded nine goals and 10 assists last season, good for 19 points in 56 games with the Okanagan U18 program.

Player to watch (Kirkland Lake)

Benjamin Armatage (04-F) – The second year NOJHL forward has broken out in a big way for the Gold Miners this season and is projected to double his points totals from last season (11G, 13A, 24PTs in 52GMs) – he is just one goal shy of those numbers (10G, 13A – 23 PTs) in only 24 games this season. Look for the 19-year-old to hit 25 goals and 30 assists by season’s end.
