At 18:18 of the second period against the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday, January 14, Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitchell Marner made history.
Finishing a tic-tac-toe scoring opportunity assisted by Tyler Bertuzzi and Jake McCabe, Marner is the fastest player in Toronto Maple Leaf history to join the 600-point club – doing so in 548 career games – breaking Darryl Sittler’s 584 game record which stood for more than 45 years.
In hitting the milestone, Marner became the seventh player in Maple Leafs history to reach the 600-point plateau recording 186 goals and 414 assists in his 548 games played, besting Sittler’s 254 goals and 346 assists in 36-less games.
This moves Marner into seventh amongst all-time Maple Leaf point producers, 40 points shy of tying Ron Ellis. Fellow forward Auston Matthews is ninth on the list with 590 points (332 G, 258 A – 590 Pts) but is expected to eclipse the 600-point mark by season’s end.

There are four current Maple Leaf players in the Top 20-point leaders with Marner and Matthews leading the way, followed by 14th-ranked and newly extended forward William Nylander (198 G, 289 A – 487 PTs), and defenceman Morgan Rielly (79 G, 369 A – 448 Pts). Current Toronto captain John Tavares sits 26th on the list with 388 career points (167 G, 221 A – 338 Pts) in 401 games.
With the extensions of Nylander and Matthews locking up the duo until the 2028-29 season for the former and 2027-28 for the latter, Marner has one year left on his current six-year deal valued at just over $10.9 million – the forward signed the $65,408,000 million contract extension in September, 2019.
