TORONTO — It seems that nowadays the NBA media find themselves talking about the usual superstars like Lebron James, Kevin Durant, and Jayson Tatum. They give them their praises and MVP nods on a nightly basis, but why not the same with Pascal Siakam?

Siakam jumped from role player to superstar for the Toronto Raptors in such a short period of time that it’s almost like nobody has noticed.

What’s happening now?

Currently, Siakam is averaging 25.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game this season. These are monster numbers, especially since he continues getting better every year.

To better put into perspective how impressive Siakam’s numbers are, look at the MVP seasons of Stephen Curry and Derrick Rose.

In 2015, Curry won league MVP while averaging 23.8 PPG, 4.3 RPG and 7.7 APG. In 2011, Rose averaged 25 PPG, 4.1 RPG and 7.7 APG in his MVP-winning season.

Time to talk

This isn’t an argument of whether Siakam should be considered for MVP this season, but rather that he at least gets into the conversation. He plays hard on both sides of the floor, helping with the defence and carrying most of the offensive load for the Toronto Raptors this year.

Pascal belongs in the top-10 conversation alongside players like Luka Doncic, Joel Embiid, Ja Morant, Nikola Jokic, Tatum, James, Durant, and Curry.

Given his game-to-game numbers this season, Siakam could also find himself on the NBA’s Eastern All-Star team, along with a potential All-NBA team nod come season’s end.

Trade deadline decisions

If the Toronto Raptors decide to make a few trades to deal with the team’s shooting woes and get back to winning form, Siakam’s MVP calibre play will need to be at the forefront. He has the abilities on both sides of the ball to be the best player on the Raptors, if he hasn’t already earned that title.

I think he is the heart and soul of this team, and, without him, the Toronto Raptors are a bad team.

It’s time for more of the NBA media to take note and recognize the superstar that the Raptors have on their hands.
